WHODAMANNY - The Dance Sucker (Periodica)

WHODAMANNY - The Dance Sucker ( Periodica )  Periodica Records is back with a four tracker 12inch from Raffaele Whodamanny Arcella. "The Dance Sucker" sees Whodamanny off the microphone going for a late 80s and proto-house experience. Tip!

FABRIZIO FATTORI - Mediterranean Africa (Best Record)

FABRIZIO FATTORI - Mediterranean Africa (Best Record) Fabrizio Fattori has been a deep cover hero in Italian dance music since the mid 80s, and while he may have shifted his attention to tribal house music in the 90s, this collection zeroes in on his earlier afro disco funk work, which drips with Balearic groove appeal. Collecting sought after records and other archival gems, this lengthy EP is a joyous, synthy excursion through sunny climes, from the MIDI brass and plastic slap bass of "Leg Pulling" to the intricate percussion and live sax of "Bara-Hum-Ba." This is a quintessential Best reissue - beautifully packaged, and putting super rare music back in the hands of the fans. Recommended!

BOBBY BOYD - Love Goddess (Athens Of The North)

BOBBY BOYD - Love Goddess (Athens Of The North) Athens Of The North have worked with some OGs and veterans in their time but Bobby Boyd is by far one of the biggest and influential. Cutting his teeth in the Lafayette Afro Rock Band before going solo, he recorded a whole host of material that remained unreleased. Until now. "Love Goddess" kicks off the collection with a northern soul stomp, big harmonies backed by a tight, slippery funk groove while "Good News" is golden era Boyd funk with its bright horn work, positive sentiment and driving soul energy. This is an amazing piece of investigatory work by Fryer and co. And there's more, too... Love Goddess / Bad News by Bobby Boyd

VARIOUS - Onda De Amor: Synthesized Brazilian Hits That Never Were 1984-94 (Soundway)

VARIOUS - Onda De Amor: Synthesized Brazilian Hits That Never Were 1984-94 (Soundway) Some crate-digging compilations are often the result of someone hand-picking their choice favourites from another country’s musical history, perhaps unaware or uninvolved with its cultural lineage in the process. On Soundway’s latest release - a treasure trove of synth jams, pop, samba boogie, Balearic and electro from 1980 & 90s Brazil - the tracks are picked by Millos Kaiser, one half of the Brazilian duo Selvagem, who is at the helm of throwing some of the country's best dance parties. It’s a rare compilation that offers Brazilian music actually picked by a Brazilian.  This collection of sixteen tracks doesn’t comprise tracks scoured from deeply in-demand records, the rare sort that sell for eye-watering sums and that collectors spend years tracking down.  This collection of sixteen tracks doesn’t comprise tracks scoured from deeply in-demand records, the rare sort that sell for eye

SHINA WILLIAMS & HIS AFRICAN PERCUSSIONISTS African Dances (reissue) (Mr Bongo)

SHINA WILLIAMS & HIS AFRICAN PERCUSSIONISTS - African Dances (reissue) (Mr. Bongo) Shina Williams' first album from 1979, African Dances, marked the moment where the Nigerian afrobeat artist would team up with 'His African Percussionists', to form one of the most sought-after sounds of the next decade. Taking inspiration from the Master Of Ceremonies, Fela Kuti, this album is just as loose and evocative as the legend's, and perhaps even a little more oriented towards the disco end of the spectrum. "Cunny Jam Wayo" is a classic afrobeat march, with its rolling drums popping off left, right and centre, while "Agboju Logun" offers a softer funk ride, and "Gboro Mi Ro" lifts the soul at the final moments with a truly memorable string of brass instruments and vocals. Cop this, not the L300+ original..! Highly Recommended! Agb'oju L'ogun by Shina Williams & His African Percussionists

UNKOWN / THRILLER - BBQ Genie (Thriller)

UNKOWN / THRILLER - BBQ Genie (Thriller) Comentários: Oh yes, it's another anonymous transmission, and it's a goodun. Thriller is the fledgling, bespoke offshoot of a very well known label and features the work of key artists from the wonky/dubstep/bass scene. Making use of raw ingredients supplied by R&B, Disco and Hip Hop, the sound of the label lies somewhere between the malfunctioning wooziness of Rustie, the low-end sentience of Kode 9 and the smartarse plunderphonics of MF Doom. Series opener BBQ has already been causing quite a stir and comes to us from easily one of the most sought-after producers of the moment, flexing his inimitable muscle with a killer late night number that's one part Midnight funk and two parts bassline shocker. Flipside cut 'Genie' has its own tricks up its sleeve and comes from equally enigmatic quarters, employing a shifted R&B, 80's Disco spine only to self destruct in the most glamorous, heavy circumstances imaginable.

CRO MAGNON - Mellow Out & Acoustic EP 1 & 2

As the Cro-Magnon sound gets progressively more heavily textured and atmospheric on their successive and still stellar LPs, the trio scales it back a bit for the Mellow Out & Acoustic -- a groovy batch of jazz funk covers and originals! The vibe is actually often electric, cut from cloth of the cosmos, with tight rhythms -- the mellowness is more in the easygoing mood. And speaking of mood, the Cro-Magnon crew covers two tracks by Moodymann -- "Black Mahogani" and "Technologystolemyvinyle" -- plus a keyboard lounge take on the Jackson 5's "Never Can Say Goodbye", a similarly easy grooving take on the Roy Ayers classic "Mystic Voyage", the originals "Silent Wave", "Beyond The Summer" and "After All That" -- plus "Mysterious Vibes" and "Love Bite". 10 tracks in all. © 1996-2008, Dusty Groove America, Inc. FORCE OF NATURE - III

FORCE OF NATURE - III (Mule Musiq Japan) Comentários: Big new Force Of Nature which is a sampler to the European CD release of their III album. "I-ight" is a Moroder-esque disco house bomb while "Kontinents" is in their typical cosmic style sounding like Vangelis, Tangerine dream on a dancefloor trip. Recommended. PANTS, James - Future Delight

PANTS, James - Future Delight (Stones Throw US) Comentários: On the A side, some incredible disco from James Pants, very much on a eighties The Clash meets 'cosmic boogie' tip with great drums and synths. The flip is more along spiritual jazz lines. Limited fanclub 45! Well Recommended. in rushhour [ Para Ouvir/Samples1 ] [ 2 ] De repente aparece um nome para isto: Freshbeat. Ouvido treinado, sentido rítmico, reciclagem sábia e muitos a

BADU, Erykah - New Amerykah Part One (4th World War)

BADU, Erykah - New Amerykah Part One (4th World War) (Universal Mowtown) Comentários: What's the freakquency, Erykah? The five years since her last album, Worldwide Underground (make that last EP, so more like eight years since her last proper album), make clear that her release frequency lags about as far behind as you could expect from a one-woman jam band at the forefront of a head collective. But the freakquency? That's pitched as high as a kite, now more than ever. Badu's intense New AmErykah: Part One (4th World War), the opening salvo of a promised two-disc series (three if you count a live album Universal is promising in late 2008), is as sonically ambitious as anything she's done to date. It's sort of the flip to Worldwide Underground in that both albums are so diffuse as to seem careless and haphazard to some listeners. But whereas the earlier album maintained a laidback, even keel (held together under the influence of the Mizell brothers), New AmErykah i

DISCO PATRICK - The Bootleg Guide To Disco Acetates Funk Rap & Disco Medleys

DISCO PATRICK - The Bootleg Guide To Disco Acetates Funk Rap & Disco Medleys (unknown label Germany) Comentários: An amazing reference for any fan of rare disco -- the first-ever book to look at the rare acetates, bootlegs, and medley vinyl from the 70s and 80s! The production level is amazing -- with full color images throughout, and a wealth of information on each title -- plus detailed additional features on the labels, mixers, and other folks involved with the phenomenon! There's even a section on rare club flyers -- one more way that the book gives a key glimpse into the underground scene of the time -- and even if you're not a top-level collector, there's plenty of information here for any fan of older disco! The book is expensive, but the quality is worth the price -- over 350 full-color pages, on very heavy paper. in dustygroove [ Comprar/Buy ]

THE MILLION DOLLAR ORCHESTRA - Better Days

THE MILLION DOLLAR ORCHESTRA - Better Days (BBE) Comentários: "Better Days" was recorded in the traditional way - mostly one take, in an analogue studio. The Sound is rich , lush, string laden, beautiful disco music, full of joy with phenomenal musicianship. It is Al Kent's biography told in music. nota do editor [ Para Ouvir/Samples ]
