KING TUBBY meets THE UPSETTER - At The Grass Roots Of Dub

KING TUBBY meets THE UPSETTER - At The Grass Roots Of Dub (Studio 16) Comentários: Having loved this album as a white label for many many years, its really nice to be handling a full reissue of this classic classic dub piece from prime period 1975. Questions have been often raised about its provenance, purporting to be a King Tubby and Upsetter album, in fact only the mixes are theirs in the respective studios – but this minor gripe aside – Winston Edwards and the Natty Dread fashion a true heavyweight set of instrumentals, Tubbys is in ticklers good form, and the Perry tracks have that glorious fuzzy compressed feel and instinctive editing which speaks of heavy runnings at the Black Ark. An album that you can truly run and run indefinitely – in my experience, it never fails. in boomkat [ Para Ouvir/Samples ]

DISCO PATRICK - The Bootleg Guide To Disco Acetates Funk Rap & Disco Medleys

DISCO PATRICK - The Bootleg Guide To Disco Acetates Funk Rap & Disco Medleys (unknown label Germany) Comentários: An amazing reference for any fan of rare disco -- the first-ever book to look at the rare acetates, bootlegs, and medley vinyl from the 70s and 80s! The production level is amazing -- with full color images throughout, and a wealth of information on each title -- plus detailed additional features on the labels, mixers, and other folks involved with the phenomenon! There's even a section on rare club flyers -- one more way that the book gives a key glimpse into the underground scene of the time -- and even if you're not a top-level collector, there's plenty of information here for any fan of older disco! The book is expensive, but the quality is worth the price -- over 350 full-color pages, on very heavy paper. in dustygroove [ Comprar/Buy ]

OUR THEORY - Yeah, That's Right

OUR THEORY - Yeah, That's Right (Nublu France) Comentários: While out on tour, Nublu founder Ilhan Ersahin, ended up in a jam somewhere with French trumpet player Erik Truffaz. The two clicked immediately and decided to record a few sessions together. Ilhan brought in Thor Madsen (guitar player from Wax Poetic) and together they entered the journey now presented to as the project Our Theory, a statement of sounds that resonates with a cinematic/orchestral feel. The melodies, harmonies and rhythm transport you to the middle of New York City with one window looking into Paris, another into London and one window looking straight into the nature of a distant place which might be paradise. Call it the jazz of today or nu-jazz as its more commonly known in Europe today, or simply as Ilhan prefers it: music. This 12" features Jan Jelinek's (~Scape) minimal left-field remix of "Yeah, That's Right" a song originally written as a tribute to late great tenor sax man Ed

NICOLE WILLIS & THE SOUL INVESTIGATORS- Keep Reachin' Up Remixed

WILLIS, Nicole/THE SOUL INVESTIGATORS/VARIOUS - Keep Reachin' Up Remixed (Above The Clouds) Comentários: Brooklyn born Helsinki based Nicole Willis is back with the deliciously titled Soul Investigators, and this time round she’s all mixed up.As the title suggests ‘Keep Reachin’ Up Remixed’ is a reworked version of Willis’ 2005 smash ‘Keep Reachin’ Up’ – the album that propelled her into the spotlight and got heads like Giles Peterson and Mr Scruff talking. The dusty funk soul sound of the original remains on much of the album but it’s been pushed in a diverse set of direction from Hammond-funk to electronica, via dub-step, jazz, house and reggae. An Aaron Jerome, BBE nu-blood, mix of ‘Feeling Free’ opens up the album with a smooth jazzy feel while Breakin’ Bread’s Rob Life serves us a break heavy version of the title track a la DJ Format. Remixing duties for ‘If It Ain’t Love’ fall to Mr Scruff who drops some cheeky flute samples and reworks the drums. ‘No One’s Going to Love You

DOE, Ernie K - Here Come The Girls

DOE, Ernie K - Here Come The Girls (Soul Jazz) Comentários: Just in time for the party season, Ernie K. Doe's massive 'Here Come The Girls' (you know, that one from the Boots advert) drops in a big funky way. A great tune in it's own right but absolutely perfect for the 'floor thanks to the advert exposure. Hit! in phonica [ Para Ouvir/Samples ]
